Still up for it? Read on.

1. Location, location, location

Your first step to enjoyable outdoor sex is figuring out the right place to do it. Of course secluded and hidden should be high on your list of priorities. While we get that the thrill of being caught is all part of the excitement, you don’t really want that to happen. Remember, technically sex in public or outside in the open air is illegal, so look for somewhere that offers you at least some security.

Here’s a few ideas:

  • Private garden - great if you’re starting out!
  • Public park
  • Forest Field
  • Beach
  • Public transport
  • Public bathroom
  • Cinema
  • Restaurant
  • Shop changing room
  • Swimming pool
  • Library
  • Rooftop

2. Check the forecast

It may sound like something your gran does every morning, but having an idea of what the weather’s doing before you head out to your chosen spot is key. Nothing ruins a forbidden encounter like an unexpected downpour.

On the other hand, the last thing you want when getting down and dirty outdoors is a hot and sweaty day. And, hello, mosquitoes! You want that sweet spot of not too hot, not too cold, and nothing raining from the heavens.

3. Pick your position

When it comes to getting it on in public, your usual favourite positions are probably not going to be in your repertoire. But you’re not as limited as you may think, it all depends on where your chosen location is.

If you’ve chosen an open field, back garden or your office floor then the world is your oyster. The difficult part comes when you head out into the wider world. In a dark cinema or public bathroom? Your position has to fit both within the space available and your physical capabilities. Stick to positions that are going to make you feel good and won’t cause either of you any injuries.

4. Be prepared

You know the spontaneous outdoor sex that takes place in the films and TV shows? Yeah, it doesn’t happen like that in real life. At least not successfully. The truth is that this kind of sex takes planning and preparation. Here’s a little checklist of what you might want to have to hand:

  • Condoms
  • Lube
  • Sex toys - if you’re feeling even more adventurous
  • Towel - if you’re somewhere you can lie down
  • Extra clothes - at least extra underwear

You don’t have to have a whole suitcase packed, but a little preparation never hurt anyone.

5. Have an exit strategy

Part of the thrill of outdoor sex is the knowledge that you might get caught at any moment. Best case scenario is you get spotted and nobody cares. Worst case scenario, the police are called and you get arrested. If there are kids nearby then the outcome will be even worse. No one wants that conversation with their boss or family and friends.

Before you get down to it, check your exits. How will you get away? Where does every door lead? Should you leave as many clothes on as possible or do you have freedom to undress? These are important things to think about to save your dignity and your clean record.

6. Enjoy yourself

You didn’t think it was going to be all rules, did you? After a certain point, there’s only so much planning that you can do. If you plan too much then you risk taking all the fun and any spontaneity out of the proceedings. The last thing for you to do is put your plans into action. Wait for your moment and just go for it.

Who knows, maybe you’ll love it and be well on your way to full exbibitionism, or maybe you’ll hate it and vow never to leave your own four walls again. But you’ll never know until you try, right? Let’s face it, outdoor sex isn’t for everyone, and it’s not something to be taken lightly. There’s always a chance of being discovered, but it’s the perfect way to inject a little fun and fantasy into your routine. Just follow the steps above, plan carefully and have fun with it.

Now go tick it off your sex bucket list!
